07 Feb Skiing the Woods
Dave Irish, a long-time local and owner of Irish Boat Shop, shares his story of skiing these woods.
Forest skiing brings joy of being ‘on plane’ with my skis.
Body feeling great, cold just a detail to be managed, no worries,
Silent save the puffing breath and swish of skis through snow,
Wind moaning high in the treetops and cannot touch my face,
Sometimes on trails, bushwhacking my own way,
Joy of getting the wax right, bot sticky and slippery,
Ski for two hours and never see a house or a skier
Wealth of forests to ski, State and Conservancy lands and lots ore, all mine alone this day.
