07 Jan Running to Zorn Park
Amy Kitscher, a Petoskey local, shares her story about how a finish line in Zorn Park started her passion for running.
Among all the other wonderful, beautiful memories I have of Zorn Park…it has now become, for myself and my daughter, the “finish line” of our very first running goals and the start of an ongoing passion. The 5K that Ava ran ended with a celebratory dip in the lake (of course!) and a handmade “medal” from Grandma. It also inspired her to join Girls on the Run the following spring.
As for finishing my first 10K, it seemed like a near impossible goal at the time. I can still picture running into Zorn Park feeling that excitement, satisfaction and relief every time we drive through or head to the beach. I could not ask for a lovelier place to hold those memories.
Even though I was injured and couldn’t run this year’s race, volunteering and being able to watch runners of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience hit that finish line was an incredibly powerful experience. This built another meaningful memory of Zorn Park.
