Help restore the historic Old Baldy hiking trail at Petoskey State Park!
"Keeping It Nice" on Little Traverse Wheelway
Help create new informative signage for the historic Little Traverse Wheelway that you will be running on during the race! One of the premiere trails in the Midwest, the LTW offers great views of Little Traverse Bay and has been used as a footpath for over 600 years. The informative signage is part of Top of Michigan Trails Council's "Keeping It Nice" campaign that will include ongoing trail maintenance as well as benches, drinking fountains and art along the trail in future years.
A heartfelt thanks to the 90 volunteers, ages 9-76 years, who were stationed around the bay from Bay Harbor to Harbor Springs. They were friendly and full of energy - what a difference it makes! Without them, the race couldn't happen!
A special thanks to the middle school and high school runners from Harbor Springs Cross Country team who helped at Aid Station 1 with The North Face and put on the Kids' Run. Also to the girls from Harbor Springs Shay Elementary Girls on the Run who were at the finish line with water and did an A1 job at Aid Station 5 on Beach Dr. in Wequetonsing. Their handmade signs and cheering were a big hit with the runners!
Runners know best that aid stations and high energy, friendly volunteers make or break a race. Thanks to our aid station sponsors who were out there with drinks and word of encouragement to refuel the runners: The North Face, 45 North Yacht Management, Touring Gear, Bay Tennis and Fitness, Petoskey Brewing and Girls on the Run.
32 businesses stepped up in support of this event. Without it, there would be no Little Traverse Half Marathon. From food, to awards, to finish line bling, the sponsors donated their services, products and support. A special thanks to Bay Harbor for hosting the staging area and starting line!
Starting in the Village of Bay Harbor, the point-to-point route (filled with long, flat stretches and some rolling terrain) will take runners on a fall tour around Little Traverse Bay through four distinct sections: 1) the historic Little Traverse Wheelway (Bay Harbor through Petoskey's Bayfront Park), 2) a footpath along the waterfront through historic Bay View, 3) a bypass through Petoskey State Park, and 3) (veering off the Wheelway) a shoreline road through the resort community of Wequetonsing ending at the finish line in downtown Harbor Springs. Race start is at 8:00AM, and the course closes at 11:30AM.
Let's get kids on the run! Free for ages 4 and up, the Kid's Run starts/finishes in Zorn Park in Harbor Springs with 2 distances: 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile sprints. Registration is from 9:45-10:15AM. Mandatory meeting at 10:15AM and start is at 10:30AM. All participants receive a ribbon and granola bar made locally by My Sister's Bake Shop.
Runners know that energetic, friendly volunteers make all the difference between a good race and a great race! Join the fun, grab a friend and be a race volunteer at the start line, along the course (cheering, directing runners, aid stations), or at the finish line.
The Outfitter of Harbor Springs is proud to present the Little Traverse Half as a unique running experience that celebrates our small towns, the historic Wheelway, and Little Traverse Bay.
