01 Aug Canoeing Upstream
Kitty Suarez, owner of Harbor’s Signature Salon and Spa, shares her story of canoeing upstream.
I was at home with my husband, Emil, on a Sunday afternoon thinking, “What should we do today?” We agreed… The river is right here in our backyard. Let’s just grab the canoe…
It was impromptu. We put in at the Crooked River boardwalk just a few blocks from our house and slowly moved upstream. The entire river was calm-there was no wind and not a ripple on the water. it was just magical-the weather, the sun, the trees, the color, the water. But the reflection of the trees in the water was what struck me the most…the colors were even more vibrant and it seemed like there was no bottom, the water and colors were endless. And then we saw more than 3 dozen sandhill cranes take flight! I kept thinking, “Where can you be to experience something so beautiful?”
It would have been so easy to just stay home, and the whole experience was one of the more memorable days ever. And I was in my backyard.
